Unpacking the Nike Corduroy Collection
Nike’s Air Max 95, Air Force 1, and Air Max 97 are all getting a corduroy makeover for a Spring 2018 release. Now, this is all thanks to the hype of Sean
Wotherspoon’s highly-anticipated Air Max 97 which was released earlier this week; the collaboration came about after the design won the Revolution Air Design Competition.
The shoe itself is made from corduroy, which is a material infamously used within 70s/80s vintage fashion, as a pose to footwear. This classic fabric, however, has proven to be very popular. Corduroy fabric is very hard-wearing, but also very lightweight making it an ideal material for a Spring/Summer casual shoe. The material is also featured on the inner line as well as the exterior lining, which provides even more comfort than usual. As a result, Nike is utilising this opportunity to capitalise on this new trend, as well as re-birth a trio of classics.
The show has a warm blue hue, with red, blue and yellow colouring. In addition, the 3M reflective detailing on the Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 as a modern touch. All three pairs feature an all white sole. This retro-themed colorway isn’t a new addition to Nike’s, the collection is reminiscent of the Air Max 97 Finish Line 25th anniversary shoe (pictured below).
Nike has utilised these classic, fan favourite silhouettes with bright retro colours, a luxe material, and guaranteed comfort, creating an ideal shoe fit with soft tones for the upcoming Spring/Summer seasons. Scroll down to take a look at the full collection and let us know your opinion below.
